Winter Solstice

We are slowly approaching the shortest day of the year. This gets me thinking about spring being right around the corner and the cherry blossoms blooming. I enjoy reflecting on the year that has past and dreaming about my future outdoor pursuits. The gray dark days will soon turn to bright sun filled afternoons. The layers of clothing will slowly start to disappear and before long I’ll be walking barefoot at the beach. For now I spend my time indoors consumed with literary adventures. The change in seasons provides me with inspiration and balance to pursue my diverse set interests. Now if I only had a wood burning fireplace to complete the picture.
Moments

I’m riding my board in waist deep powder on a slightly overcast day. I take a toe side turn and can feel the snow spray on my shoulder. I turn on my heel edge and get the spray from my previous turn hit my face. I sit on my board in the ocean with the orange glow of the sun on the horizon. A wave is coming; I paddle for it and slide down its translucent green face.
These types of memories are inspirational and unforgettable. They allow me to wake up in the morning with a big smile on my face; Worries are erased and troubles forgotten. I feel truly blessed to live in the Pacific Northwest.
Spring is here and the smells of bloom are in the air. The cherry blossom petals create a carpet beneath my feet. The sun becomes brighter as each day grows longer. I dream of warmer days that I’ll spend reading and swimming at the beach. For now its simple walks in the forest seeing my breathe in the air. Watching the dappled light shine through the trees and a deer in the distance.
People needed for portrait series.

This photo portrait series is about people and their personal style.
Many times while walking the streets in different neighborhoods I see folks with amazing style. I feel like approaching them to ask about how they’ve developed this wonderful style of theirs. Is fashion a big part of who they are? How does it translate into other aspects of their life? Where do they find their inspiration? Perhaps it comes from architecture , the outdoors , an era such as the 50’s , etc? Having a conversation with my subject will give us the opportunity to develop a comfort level with each other and therefore allow me to capture a true image of them.
If you live in the Vancouver area and would like to participate in this series please send me an email with a few snapshots of yourself that you feel represent your personal style.
All the best,

Fly Away
I wish I were a bird. I could fly anywhere in the world. See anything that I desired; Like the fjords in Norway , or the surf in Hawaii. I wouldn’t need any material possessions. I could build a home with my beak and claws. I could live in California for a while , then fly to Paris and perch myself atop the Eiffel tower. I’d hunt and gather for my food; Living that great nomadic lifestyle. I’d depend solely on myself and get great joy from living a totally free spirited life. Until I flew into the cosmos forever.
